The Lotus Elite or the Lotus Type 14 was first launched in 1957 and it first model remained popular from 1958 to 1963. This was a two-seater coupe car. The car aims the racing customers and it uses the glass-reinforced plastic for building the whole body of the car. This makes the car ultra light and ideal for racing.

The next version of the car came in 1974 to 1982. This was four-seat car and was named Type 75 and then Type 83 elite. This was engine with rear wheel drive and it was first saloon car from Lotus. The car had 1973 cc engine that produced around 155BHP.

In September 2010, the car company announced the onset of next variant of Lotus Elite going to get into production from year 2014. This will be a 5 Liter V8 engine generating over 600BHP.
