Datsun 1200 is successor of the Datsun 1000 which was launched in the year 1966. Datsun 1200 came into existence as uplift for its previous version in 1970. The car was launched in competition with Toyota Corolla. This car had Macpherson strut front suspension and with an option for disc brakes. The engine was quite economical 1.2L A12 engine with five doors. The car made its debut in racing industry in November 1970 at Fuji mile race in Japan. This was launched in Japanese market in April 1970 with twin carburetor engine. In 1973, this was the most fuel-efficient vehicle in USA. This became the lowest price car in US priced at $1866 at 28.7MPG. In New Zealand, a special edition was launched in 1974 as Datsun SSS 1200 that is a four-door sedan.
